Lion Claw Pink Muay Thai Shorts — Lumpinee Cut
Pink is a fighter's colour. Always was.
In Thailand, pink belongs to Tuesday - Angkhan, the day of Mars, the warrior's day. Thai fighters have worn pink shorts in Lumpinee for decades. Buakaw, Saenchai, Rodtang - every name you'd put on a Mount Rushmore of Muay Thai has fought in pink. Not because it's "soft." Because in the country that invented this art, pink is the colour of the warrior planet.
These are the Lion Claw Pink. Cut to traditional Muay Thai proportions, pressed in the same satin the Bangkok camps issue, designed for the fighter who isn't asking permission to be seen.
Coach Michael's take
I issue these in my women's class first, because every female fighter in the UK knows what it's like to walk into a gym where everyone's in plain black. You don't disappear in pink. You can't. And the moment you stop trying to disappear is the moment your Muay Thai changes - your roundhouse picks up volume, your clinch gets braver, your timing sharpens because you stopped hiding.
But pink isn't a women's-class-only short. I've got male amateurs who wear these in interclubs and they fight harder for it. The colour pulls a different energy out of you. Try it once.
- Coach Michael Namrit, Wassmuffin Martial Arts Academy
What you're buying
- Genuine Muay Thai cut. Wide leg, high side slits, sits above the knee - nothing restricting your teep, your roundhouse, your switch.
- Satin shell, not polyester knock-off. Same approximate weight (~110gsm) the Bangkok camps issue. Breathes through pad rounds. Dries fast in a UK gym bag overnight.
- Drawstring fold-over waistband. No elastic snap, no migration mid-clinch. The way Thai shorts have been finished for fifty years.
- Lion Claw motif embroidered, not printed. Won't crack or peel after twenty washes.
- Reinforced inner thigh seam. The seam Western shorts always blow first - we've doubled it.
Designed for
UK Muay Thai amateurs at interclub level. Thai kickboxing students who want to look the part from week one. Women fighters refusing the same plain black uniform. Anyone who trains with their identity intact.

How they wear
True to Thai sizing - meaning they run small for Western buyers. Most UK fighters take one size up from their normal short size. If you're between sizes, take the larger; easier to tighten the drawstring than to gain an inch. Full size chart in the FAQ below.
Pair them up
- 4M Boxing Hand Wraps - proper wrist support under your gloves
- Heavy Sparring Shin Guards - clinch-and-kick rounds covered
- Coach Michael's hand wrapping guide - read before your next session
- Sparring Gloves UK - the gloves to pair with the shorts
Tuesday's colour. Every day's fighter.
FAQ
Should I size up or down from my UK shorts size?
Most UK fighters size UP one. These follow the traditional Thai cut, which runs smaller in the waist than UK athleisure. If you're a UK 32" waist, order Large. If you're between sizes, take the larger - easier to tighten the drawstring than to gain an inch.
Are these legal for amateur Muay Thai bouts in the UK?
Yes. Lion Claw shorts meet the standard rules for UKMF (UK Muaythai Federation) and IFMA-affiliated promotions - no metal fittings, no sharp embellishments, fully fabric-bound. Always check your specific show's rulebook for any colour restrictions on the night.
How do I wash satin Muay Thai shorts so they don't shrink?
Cold wash, inside out, with similar colours. Skip the tumble dryer - satin shrinks at heat. Hang to dry, no direct sun. Treated this way they'll outlast three pairs of cheap polyester knock-offs.
Can I spar in these or are they competition-only?
Spar in them. The Lion Claw is built as a working short - daily pad rounds, clinch work, sparring nights. The reinforced inner thigh seam is exactly so you can rep them hard without splitting. Save your "competition only" pair for showtime; these earn their keep on the mat.
Will the satin tear when I throw a head kick?
No. Satin's reputation for being delicate comes from cheaper poly satin used in formalwear. Muay Thai satin is woven tighter, and the side slits are bound - the whole point of the design is to take the full leg lift without resistance or tearing.
Pink in a male-dominated gym - am I going to get clowned?
Wear them. Saenchai, Rodtang, Buakaw - every Thai legend has worn pink shorts in front of crowds bigger than your gym. In Thai culture pink is Tuesday's colour, the warrior day. Anyone clowning has missed about eighty years of Muay Thai history. (Usually shuts up after the first sparring round.)
Do these fit teens or younger fighters or are they adult-only?
Adult cut. The smallest size fits a UK 26-28" waist (typically suiting fighters age 14 and up). For under-14s, our youth Muay Thai range is in development - get in touch and we'll let you know when sizes land.
How are these different from your Black and White Lion Claw?
Same cut, same fabric, same Lion Claw motif - different intent. Black is the camp uniform, the working short you grab six days a week. White is the ceremonial pair, for seminars, gradings and showings of respect. Pink is the statement piece - the colour you wear when you've decided not to disappear. Most fighters end up with at least two in the bag.
