Lion Claw White Muay Thai Shorts — Lumpinee Cut

Product description
Shipping & Return

Some shorts are for the work. These are for the moments that matter.

In Muay Thai, white isn't a default colour - it's a chosen one. The mongkol your kru places on your head before a fight is white. The prajioud bound around your bicep is often white. The dance you perform before the round one bell - wai khru ram muay - is, traditionally, performed in white. It's the colour of respect. The colour you wear when you've stopped to remember what art you're actually practising.

These are the Lion Claw White. Same cut, same fabric, same embroidered claw - pressed in the colour the art is at its most reverent.

Coach Michael's take

Most fighters reach a point in their journey - usually a few years in - where they realise this isn't just a sport. There's a tradition behind it, going back centuries, holding lessons that don't show up in your first hundred pad rounds. White shorts are for that moment. For the seminar where Saenchai's flying in. For the grading where you're testing for armband promotion. For the day your kru asks you to demonstrate the wai khru in front of the new students.

I keep a white pair in my bag specifically for those days. They don't get worn in regular rotation - they earn their outings. When you put them on, you put on a different intention.

- Coach Michael Namrit, Wassmuffin Martial Arts Academy

What you're buying

  • Genuine Muay Thai cut. Wide leg, high side slits, sits above the knee - the same proportions Thai fighters have used for generations.
  • Satin shell, the camp standard. Same approximate weight (~110gsm) as Bangkok-issued shorts. Holds its shape under sweat, lights up under stadium lighting.
  • Drawstring fold-over waistband. No elastic to snap, no migration. Finished traditionally, the way the masters wore them.
  • Lion Claw motif embroidered, not printed. Tone-on-tone white-on-white embroidery - visible up close, ceremonial from a distance.
  • Reinforced inner thigh seam. Even ceremony shorts deserve to last - yours will, through years of seminars and select sparring.

Designed for

UK fighters two-plus years into the art who want a pair reserved for the moments that matter. Students preparing for armband gradings. Coaches issuing whites to senior amateurs ahead of seminars. Anyone who's understood that Muay Thai is older than the gym.

How they wear

True to Thai sizing - meaning they run small for Western buyers. Most UK fighters take one size up from their normal short size. White shorts deserve respect: keep a colour-safe stain remover in your bag, treat any marks before they set, and they'll stay seminar-ready for years. Full size chart in the FAQ below.

FAQ

Should I size up or down from my UK shorts size?

Most UK fighters size UP one. These follow the traditional Thai cut, which runs smaller in the waist than UK athleisure. If you're a UK 32" waist, order Large. If you're between sizes, take the larger - easier to tighten the drawstring than to gain an inch.

Are these legal for amateur Muay Thai bouts in the UK?

Yes. Lion Claw shorts meet the standard rules for UKMF (UK Muaythai Federation) and IFMA-affiliated promotions - no metal fittings, no sharp embellishments, fully fabric-bound. White is sometimes restricted in mixed-card amateur shows where a darker corner is required - check your specific show's rulebook.

How do I wash satin Muay Thai shorts so they don't shrink and stay white?

Cold wash, inside out, with whites only - never mixed colours. Skip the tumble dryer; satin shrinks at heat and white loses its brightness. Spot-treat any marks immediately with a colour-safe stain remover before throwing in the wash. Hang to dry indoors, no direct sun (UV yellows white satin over time).

Are white shorts only for ceremonies and seminars, or can I train in them?

Train in them if you want - they're the same construction as the Black and Pink. But most fighters reserve white for select occasions: seminars, gradings, demonstration rounds, the day they want to bring extra intention. The colour rewards reverence; treat them as your earned pair and they keep meaning something.

Will the satin tear when I throw a head kick?

No. Satin's reputation for being delicate comes from cheaper poly satin used in formalwear. Muay Thai satin is woven tighter, and the side slits are bound - the whole point of the design is to take the full leg lift without resistance or tearing.

Why are white shorts considered ceremonial in Muay Thai?

In traditional Muay Thai, white is associated with the wai khru ram muay (the pre-fight dance honouring teachers and ancestors), the mongkol headband worn before a bout, and the prajioud armbands. White symbolises respect, intention and the connection between fighter and lineage. Wearing white shorts is a quiet way of acknowledging the art's deeper roots.

Do these fit teens or younger fighters or are they adult-only?

Adult cut. The smallest size fits a UK 26-28" waist (typically suiting fighters age 14 and up). For under-14s, our youth Muay Thai range is in development - get in touch and we'll let you know when sizes land.

How are these different from your Pink and Black Lion Claw?

Same cut, same fabric, same Lion Claw motif - different intent. White is the ceremonial pair, reserved for seminars, gradings and demonstrations of respect. Black is the camp uniform, the daily working short. Pink is Tuesday's warrior colour - the statement piece. Most fighters earn their way into white over time.
